I was expressing my curiosity to my astrologer-cum-palmist uncle. “I don’t understand why we Hindus consider Wednesday as the best day of the week to marry.”

He first look around assuring absence of my aunt and then sheepishly said: “I don’t understand why we Hindus consider *any day* of the week a good day to marry!”

Ramayana derailed by the next generation

This one comes from my younger son recently. My wife was telling him stories of Ramayana.

“… and then Shravana took the pot to the river and started filling in water by sinking it – buD, buD, … King Dasharatha, an avid archer thought he is hearing an animal drinking water. So he shot an arrow and hit Shravana. …”

“He must be a pathetic archer! A good archer should hit the pot and not someone holding it!”

That day we realized that my younger son’s literary senses are out-shined by his reasoning.

That day my parents realized my literary senses are out-shined by my reasoning.

My new year resolutions

Physical well-being
1. Enough of this hypertension stuff. This year I resolve to bring my systolic blood pressure all the way down to zero … preceded by an eight
2. I will meet it by walking everyday at least 10,000 … inches
3. And I will build my body to professional level … more or less
Intellectual well-being
1. Read the Wikipedia … page about the new year resolutions
Spiritual well-being
1. Kick every single bad habit … that I never developed
2. Give an effective, sincere fight to end violence, hatred, terrorism and corruption … or just forget about it
Family well-being
1. Not to just obey my wife … if and when she tells me to!

Faulty X Chromosome

It was Christmas eve and night 11 PM.

I realized that my brother wasn’t bald. It was only me! Why me?

Obviously, he got the non-bald X chromosome and I got the bald one.

Where did these X chromosomes come from? Mom!

So I picked up my phone and called up my mom. “Mom! I wasn’t able to sleep. Finally I found a reason to fight with you!” Said a 40-year-old kid.

“What, my dear?” My science teacher mom replied.

“You were unjust to me. You gave the better X chromosome to my brother and gave me the bald one. That is why I am bald and he is not!”

There was a mild laughter on the other side. Then she replied: “Do you think it is genetics dear? No. It is physics. I patted your had many more times than your brother. You were my favorite kid!”

“Is that so, mom?”

“Certainly!”

“Then let me call up my brother then!” Replied the programmer son.

“Then I won’t be able to sleep tonight! Ho, ho, ho!” replied the jolly mom!

Accident prone joke

My friend is very accident prone. Recently he broke his leg and was walking with the help of a stick.

Yesterday I noticed him walking without the stick, albeit with a limp.

“Congratulations! You are back on your feet again!”

“No. I skid yesterday. Luckily I was safe but the stick broke! “
