Non-verbal understanding of verbs

Filed under: Around children — pramath @ 7:32 AM

The younger one returned from kindergarten, angry on his teacher as usual.

“Mom, I had big discussion with my teacher today!”

“What was the matter?”

“She was talking about verbs. Verbs are words that mean action.”

“Hmm.”

“She said ‘eating’ is a verb. I agreed. She said ‘playing’ is a verb. I agreed.”

“Hmm.”

“But when she said ‘sleeping’ is a verb – that was too much! Aren’t verbs supposed to mean action? Where is action in ‘sleeping’?”

  1. The action is in dreams – you should explain.
